All Aboard! Virtual Picture Desk commuting on the Digital RailroadThe Virtual Picture Desk has announced that it will be working with Digital Railroad to store and manage the images from each of its 16 individual libraries in order to streamline its workflow and content syndication efforts. Currently The Virtual Picture Desk manages the editing and syndication for the Discovery Channel, DK Images, De Agostini, Japan Travel Bureau, the Irish Image and the Hoberman collections along with many others. The company plans to use the Digital Railroad platform to establish a unique branded archive for each of the collections, while maintaining administrative access to all collections with one unique member name and password.

The current plan for The Virtual Picture Desk is to upload approximately 85,000 images from Japan Travel Bureau, Hemis.fr and the Hoberman Collection with the other archives to be uploaded shortly therafter. “Digital Railroad’s technology will streamline our workflow, speed up the delivery process to each of our client’s agents, and subsequently speed the distribution of fresh content to new markets” said George Sinclair, founder and executive director of The Virtual Picture Desk. “Further, our clients will eliminate the risk of lost DVDs and damaged hard drives in transit, and with one member name and password, VPD can manage all collections across the archives, giving us greater efficiencies.”

In addition to easing the storage and management burden for the company Digital Railroad will enable The Virtual Picture Desk to simultaneous distribute content across many channels. Current distributors include Getty Images, Corbis, Jupiter Images and Amana as well as representatives and agents throughout the world.

“Digital Railroad’s platform not only empowers VPD’s clients to concentrate on creating content, it also allows publishers, whose core business does not include licensing, to focus on their publishing business and, at the same time, earn revenue from licensing images from their photo library,” said Evan Nisselson, Digital Railroad founder and CEO. “We are excited to work with The Virtual Picture Desk in providing a reliable and state-of-the-art delivery system for its clients to their agents.”
