Pond5 launches micro-payment stock footage site with more than 50,000 clips
New York based Pond5.com, a micro-payment stock footage community site, has announced that it has emerged from beta testing with the launch of version 1.0 of its website. The new site, located at pond5.com, offers more than 50,000 broadcast-quality SD and HD clips available for instant download, starting at $5 per clip. Prices on Pond5 are controlled by the contributors and start at just $5, with an average price of around $40 for HD footage, and $20 for SD footage.

BBC Motion gallery representing footage from The Prince’s Trust
BBC Motion Gallery, the stock footage licensing division of BBC Worldwide, has announced a deal to represent the video content from The Princes Trust, The Prince of Wales’s youth charity. BBC Motion Gallery will now represent footage The Prince’s Trust events including recent content from such popular events as the Party in the Park and Fashion Rocks incorporating performances by Robbie Williams, Beyonce and Sting. Looking back over the previous 25 years clips can be found of Elton John, Mariah Carey and Jay-Z - as well as an appearance by Nelson Mandela. “Our previous events have featured performances and appearances that you’ll never see anywhere else and that’s a unique commercial opportunity. ITN Source closes six figure stock footage licensing deal with Al Jazeera

Corbis announced a new partnership with Albert Maysles, the surviving member of the Maysles brothers documentary team responsible for a list of ground-breaking films including Gimme Shelter, Meet Marlon Brando, With Love from Truman, Salesman, and Grey Gardens. ITN Source representing footage from Northern Ireland’s UTV
ITN Source has announced that it has penned an exclusive deal with Northern Ireland based broadcaster UTV to represent its news and regional programming content. UTV is the most watched channel in Northern Ireland with a peaktime share in 2007 of 32%, well ahead of the ITV Network share of 25.3%, BBC NI’s share of 21% and more than three times its nearest commercial competitor Channel 4’s 9% share. The UTV archive includes almost fifty years of unique Northern Ireland footage across politics, entertainment, wildlife and sport.

HBO Sports releases footage for licensing through HBO Archives
HBO Archives, the stock footage licensing division of HBO, has announced that it now has footage from HBO Sports available for licensing. HBO Sports recently received eight Sports Emmy Awards this past April for such programs as “24/7,” with Emmy’s going to “Mayweather/Hatton 24/7” and one to “De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7.” Two Emmys went to the documentary, “Brooklyn Dodgers: The Ghosts of Flatbush” and the magazine show “RealSports with Bryant Gumbel,” now in it’s 13th year, won an Emmy for Outstanding Sports Journalism.

Thought Equity Motion (TEM,) the motion content licensing and management business based in Denver, has added a music licensing component to its web-site. The new music offering includes exclusive Rights Managed music clips, Royalty Free music clips and a selection of RF sound effects and loops. ITN produces Margaret Thatcher documentary series for Telegraph Media Group
Telegraph Media Group has announced that it has tapped ITN On to produce a documentary series of eight original DVDs for Telegraph readers to be inserted in the Telegraph between April 14-19. The DVDs incorporate hours of original stock footage from ITN’s archive and are intended to provide a comprehensive account of Margaret Thatcher (the longest serving Prime Minister of the last century) starting with her life before entering politics, through her years as party leader then Prime Minister and her enduring legacy. Narrated by Anna Massey, this unique collaboration was an attempt to produce the definitive documentary series on Margaret Thatcher.

iStockphoto introducing stock photography and footage subscription in May ‘08
Getty’s micropayment product, iStockphoto, the first and largest of the micro-payment sites with an image licensed every 1.4 seconds, has announced that it will be launching a subscription service to allow open access to photos, illustrations, and footage, for a period of 3, 6 or 12 months. The company is currently in private BETA testing of the new service and has declined to release information about the pricing and terms of the service except to say that Packages will start for as little as $96/month. Other companies offering similar subscription services include Shutterstock, SnapVillage and Stockxpert.

Cutcaster launches NASDAQ-like marketplace for stock photography and footage
Cutcaster, A new image marketplace has launched offering Royalty Free photos and video from a community of photographers and videographers. However, this new marketplace has a unique approach to pricing which makes it difficult to label as micro-stock, mid-stock or traditional stock pricing because the contributor sets the pricing based on supply and demand. In addition content providers can interact with potential buyers who are permitted to submit bids for content, which the contributor can accept, decline or meet with a return offer. “I came from a stock trading background on Wall St. where electronic trading platforms seamlessly helped buyers and sellers find one another, negotiate on pricing and cut out the expensive and inefficient middleman” states Cutcaster founder John Griffin.

ITN Source provides footage for Rolling Stones and Joy Division films
ITN Source has announced that it has contributed stock footage for two of this year’s biggest music feature films on two of the UK’s greatest bands - Joy Division and the Rolling Stones. Shine a Light, the critically acclaimed Rolling Stones documentary, directed by Martin Scorsese, features content from the ITN and Granada archives, both represented exclusively by ITN Source. The footage used in the film captures some of the legal clashes the Rolling Stones encountered in their career including Mick Jagger‘s drugs arrest in 1967, where he dismissed that he is an advocate of drug use. The film also includes archive content that captures the humorous side of Jagger who attended Keith Richard’s trial for the possession of drugs in 1977 and said to ITN “I never miss a case!”

ITN Source appoints Neil Meadows as UK Sales Director

Two films with historical stock footage win at BAFTA Awards
The film ‘Atonement’ won for Best Film and ‘This is England’ won in the Best British Film category. Both received awards at the 2008 BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards held in London’s Royal Opera House.
