Construction Photography offering time-lapse HD footage of London’s Olympic Park
London based Construction Photography, a stock agency specializing in construction photography and images of the built environment, has announced that it is documenting the construction of the new Olympic Park in Lea Valley, East London, with time-lapse photography of what has become the largest construction site in Europe. Construction Photography is documenting this process with High Definition (HD) cameras overlooking the site, benefiting from the highest viewpoint over the Park. The ground breaking Time Lapse system takes two images every minute from several angles and will continue documenting the activity until 2012 and during the Games.

SIPA Press now representing NBC Universal Photo Bank
NBC Universal has announced a partnership with SIPA Press appointing SIPA Press as a distribution partner for NBC Universal archival television photos offered in the NBCU Photo Bank. The NBCU Photo Bank was launched In July 2006, as an in-house business unit and online photo archive to handle its own photo licensing and distribution of its collection of more than 15 million (digital and analog) images dating from the present time back to the 1920s NBC Radio Days. “NBC Universal Photo Bank is delighted to partner with SIPA Press to further expand our distribution opportunities in Europe,” said Ray Slay, Senior Vice President, NBC Universal Photography and New Media. “We are looking forward to this valuable new relationship which will make NBC content even more readily available to our international clients.”

John Birdsall to be represented exclusively by PA Photos
The John Birdsall Social Issues Photo Library has signed an exclusive representation agreement with PA Photos, who will now manage the library and serve John Birdsall customers effective January 1st 2009. The John Birdsall collection was launched in 1985, aiming to challenge stereotypical perceptions and promote awareness of subjects such as disability, race and gender. “We are very excited about working with PA Photos, who are also based in Nottingham. They show the same professionalism, customer service and sensitivity in releasing our material. Masterfile launches new image search technology dubbed “Endless Media”
Masterfile, a stock photography company based in Toronto with offices in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, has announced that it has launched a new online image search user interface called Endless Media. Redferns Music Picture Library acquired by Getty Images
Getty Images, the worlds largest stock licensing company has announced the acquisition of the London-Based Redferns Music Picture Library. Founded by British photographer David Redfern in the early 1960’s, the Redferns music picture library offers music imagery ranging from 18th century classical composers to the headliners of today. The collection of more than 30,000 images will be incorporated into the Getty Images site under the respected Redferns brand name as soon as February 2009.

Dreamstime partners with Phototimes to offer micro-stock in Russia
Dreamstime, a Brentwood Tennessee based micro-payment stock photography business, has announced that it has partnered with Phototimes (located in Rostov-on-Don, Russia) to effectively cater to the Russian market. The companies are launching what is being billed as the first micro stock photo outlet in Russia at PhotoTimes.ru. “Dreamstime is simple and logical and purchasing Dreamstime images will be made easy for our customers,” said Tamara Kvikviniya, who overseas Phototimes’ foreign economic and trade relations. “We intend to follow that very same model to provide a good service that makes good sense.”

Google digitizing 10 million images from the LIFE Photo Archive
Time Inc. has teamed up with Google to digitize more than 10 million images from the LIFE’s Photo Archive to be made available online utilizing a hosted image service from Google. According to a recent press release “ninety-seven percent of the photographs have never been seen by the public” and the archive contains some of the most iconic images of the 20th century, including works from great photojournalists Alfred Eisenstaedt, Margaret Bourke-White, Gordon Parks, and W. Eugene Smith. Thius follows an announcement in September where Time Inc. is teaming up with Getty Images to launch a similar photo viewing site at Life.com.

The Mazer Corporation, an educational publishing company based in Dayton Ohio,has announced that it has launched a stock photography licensing business called Mazerstock. McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and Pearson, adopt PLUS Image Licensing Standards
The Picture Licensing Universal System (PLUS,) an international non-profit organization dedicated to creating standard image usage rights terms and definitions, has announced that tree major publisher have announced that they will adopt the PLUS Picture Licensing Glossary definitions in their contracts. The three publishers, McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and Pearson, have also committed to encouraging image suppliers to begin embedding PLUS license metadata in all images within one year. “The PLUS standards benefit publishers and their suppliers by simplifying and clarifying the process of licensing and managing images. We are in the process of implementing PLUS standards, and we would find it very useful for our image suppliers to adopt PLUS standards as well.” stated Bonnie Beacher, Senior Director of Contracts, Copyrights and Permissions at McGraw-Hill Education.

Picture-House NY Gaining Steam
This year’s annual picture buyer fair in New York City broke records for vendor participation and buyer attendance. The eight-year old event, run by PictureHouse Marketing US, LLC, took place on October 29th at the Altman Building in Chelsea and attracted over 100 stock photo companies. Most importantly, the number of stock photo users and buyers exceeded 850, a nearly 25% increase from the previous year with more ad-agency personnel as opposed to editorial buyers in the mix.
