Jupiter combines Photos.com with micropayment site Stockxpert in single subscription
Touting that it is now offering the best of both worlds in a single subscription. Jupiterimages, a division of Jupitermedia Corporation (Nasdaq: JUPM), has announced that it is now offering a single subscription product that incorporates the Photos.com collection of more than 360,000 professional images and the Stockxpert collection of more than 1.3 million micropayment images into a single subscription product. The new service will be branded as Photos.com Plus and Subscriptions are available for one month, three month and one year terms (limited to 750 images per month) with monthly subscriptions starting at $249.95.

The Medical File launches royalty-free collection and assignment division
The Medical File, a rights-managed (RM) stock licensing company founded by industry veteran Barbara Gottlieb specializing in medical imagery, has announced that the business is growing in two unique directions with the launch of a royalty-free (RF) image collection and an assignment photography division. According to Gottlieb, “we have made these additions to be able to supply all the forms of medical imagery our clients are looking for: Illustration and Photography; Color and Black and White; 1, 2 or 3 Dimensional and Animation; Stock and Assignment”.

Digital Railroad partners with Qualex to offer print fulfillment
Digital Railroad, a leading provider of online archiving and marketing services to professional photographers, has announced that it has partnered with Qualex, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastman Kodak, to allow contributing photographers to offer prints and print-related products utilizing the images currently available in the members Digital Railroad archive. Through the Qualex fulfillment service member photographers will have the opportunity to generate additional revenue from each image with terms where the photographer will receive up to 90% of the gross sale price, less the product fee (a fee meant to cover the cost of production and fulfillment).

Robert Harding World Imagery, a specialist image library from the UK focused on travel images, has announced that it is offering a simplified flat rate web-use license for rights-managed (RM) images at just £25 ($50, €35). The new license parameters allow publishers to display the image any number of times on supplementary pages of a single website for up to two years. For homepage use the license fee will be doubled (£50,$100. €70).

Two friends, award-winning press photographer Stewart Goldstein and his friend David Davis, former financial journalist with The Times and vice chairman of Edelman, have launched a new specialty stock library which they believe will address the needs of a vastly underserved market for healthcare and medical imagery. The two friends who launched Medicimage Ltd above a garage in North London, claim to have invested more than 3 years of their time and £500,000 (approx $1 million) in Medicimage, which is launching in Beta version at medicimage.co.uk with a wholly-owned archive of 100,000 original images and many hundreds of hours of broadcast quality video footage.

Getty Images partners with Yahoo to monetize Flickr images
Getty Images, the worlds largest image licensing company, has announced that it has partnered with Yahoo-owned Flickr, one of the world’s largest photo sharing communities, allowing Getty to reach out to Flickr’s more than 27 million members to monetize their Flickr images. Getty plans to offer the images as part of a new Flickr branded collection of royalty free, rights ready and rights managed photographs. “This partnership is testimony to the Flickr community of photographers who have influenced the aesthetics of photography with authentic, creative and cutting-edge images which will now be available to Getty Images’ customers around the world,” said Kakul Srivastava, General Manager, Flickr.

Masterfile launches promotional magazine called Mysteries
Masterfile, a stock photography company based in Toronto with offices in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, has announced the launch of a new 32-page, full-color promotional magazine called Mysteries to be released by mid-June. The company states that the mysterious new Limited Edition magazine “takes inspiration from Oscar Wilde (the true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible).” The magazine was created in-house by Masterfile’s European design department.

ImageSpan closes $11 million 2nd round financing
ImageSpan Inc., a software company that offers a content licensing platform for digital media based in Sausalito, CA, has announced that it has closed a second round financing of $11 million from a group led by Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI). Existing investors Greycroft Partners, headed by Alan Patricof, and Village Ventures also participated. Additional funds came from the New York City Investment Fund, City Lights Capital Management and Ackerley Partners LLC. “We see ImageSpan solving a very serious pain point affecting the entire media landscape today—that of licensing and monetizing digital image and video content at a time when both of these content categories are growing increasingly important on the web,” said Richard Sarnoff, President of BDMI.

ITN Source representing footage from Northern Ireland’s UTV
ITN Source has announced that it has penned an exclusive deal with Northern Ireland based broadcaster UTV to represent its news and regional programming content. UTV is the most watched channel in Northern Ireland with a peaktime share in 2007 of 32%, well ahead of the ITV Network share of 25.3%, BBC NI’s share of 21% and more than three times its nearest commercial competitor Channel 4’s 9% share. The UTV archive includes almost fifty years of unique Northern Ireland footage across politics, entertainment, wildlife and sport.
