BAPLA announces organizational changes for a 21st century recession
The British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies (BAPLA) has announced plans to implement changes that both reflect today’s economic climate and build on the strengths of the organization. BAPLA is aiming to concentrate on three areas; business support, business opportunities and increasing lobbying. The proposed plan has been brought forth by BAPLA’s new Executive Director Simon Cliffe who assumed the reigns for the organization after the former CEO Linda Royles resigned last year. “The business model has changed. Actually, the business model is changing every day, and with that change comes fear but also opportunity and we need to ensure it’s the latter that BAPLA concentrates on. We can’t give members business, but we can do everything within our resources to help them help themselves develop more revenue opportunities,” states Simon Cliffe.

The British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies (BAPLA), a trade association for picture libraries in the UK with more than 380 members, has announced that it has concluded it search for an Executive Director with tha appointment of Simon Cliffe. Cliffe will assume the post, vacated by Linda Royles earlier this year after 10 years in that role, in early 2008. The first two or three waves of the digital explosion are behind us but I believe there’s plenty more to come. If we can embrace that properly and in a timely manner, we can not only ride any storm thrown at us by the credit crunch but also build an extremely exciting future for this industry. The plans for BAPLA are ambitious, the members of BAPLA are talented and I can’t wait to get started”

This year, PictureHouse takes place on the same day as, and directly across the street from, the Annual Conference of the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP.) Chicago area picture buyers should consider attending both events. The ASPP Conference, a morning event, offers panel discussions on digital image standards and “the changing image of the picture licensing business.” The PictureHouse trade show never disappoints in providing image buyers with a chance to meet new and old image suppliers and see the wide range of image sources available to them.
