Paparazzi photographer arrested for extortion in Italy
The Italian authorities have arrested paparazzi photographer Fabrizio Corona on suspicion of having used compromising images of celebrities to extort money from the subjects. In a time-honored method used by the "photo mafia," less than honorable photographers photograph usually wealthy unsuspecting prominent persons in compromising circumstances. They then inform the subjects of the images which, if made public, would create unpleasantness for them. In exchange for a pile of cash, the photographer promises to keep the images from making their way to the front pages of gossip magazines.
In the case of Mr. Corona, Italian police suspect he employed prostitutes to lure his victims into embarrassing situations which he would then photograph from a concealed vantage point. Corona, however, had the audacity (and some might say, stupidity) to attempt to blackmail one of Italy's most powerful and well-known personalities in Italy, former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Mr. Corona is now in custody in Milan awaiting trial for several misdeeds. Stefan Hartmann, VISUELL

Well Corona is not a paparazzi photographer. He is just one of the owners of the photo agency Corona’s. To say the truth Corona has never shot a single picture. It’s a very disgusting story and there are a lot of people involved. At the moment there are three people in jail including Corona. It seems that Corona and his friends even extorted money to Berlusconi who is the former italian president and one of the richest and powerful man in the world. There are politicians, business people, and a lot of show biz people involved. Prostitution, drug ed blackmailing are the crimes. Before police put seals at the Corona’s offices , this agency was very fast growing and employed a lot of photographers . All the gossip and celebrity magazines were the main clients of Corona. It’s a very sad and disturbing story. We’ll see what will happen in the next future.
