PACA sets program for Annual Meeting in Washington DC area

PACA is taking over in Washington DC!The trade organization for the stock image industry in North America, the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA,) has announced a program of wide-ranging topics for its 2007 Annual Meeting.  This year, the Meeting will take place just a few miles from our nation’s capital, at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia. The Meeting will open with a welcoming cocktail reception on Friday evening, May 4th and end with a dinner cruise on the Potomac on Sunday night, May 6th.  Reflecting the growing complexity of the business of stock photography, the Program covers a wide variety of subjects of interest to all parties to the industry.

On Saturday morning, the first general session will address the question of whether or how well the industry meets clients’ content needs, a pressing question, especially in light of the incredible rate of production of new RF and micro-stock content. Participants will then join break-out sessions that day about the use of historical and public domain images, the co-existence of the variety of licensing models in today’s market, and the progress of the Picture Licensing Universal System at establishing image licensing standards.  The day will end with an in-depth look at the stock footage business, a sector touted by many as a source of significant growth for the industry in the near term. In keeping with a newly established “tradition,” the organization has invited members of the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP) to join the meeting for the day on Saturday, bringing the perspectives and views of colleagues from other parts of the photography indsutry to bear on these important issues.

Sunday’s program includes a panel of members of the press discussing their perspective on the industry and where it’s headed, a presentation from the United State’s Copyright Office, and discussions on marketing, distribution channels and the latest technological developments to affect the industry.
