The International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC), was established in 1965 by a group of news organizations including the Alliance Européenne des Agences de Presse, ANPA (now NAA), FIEJ (now WAN) and the North American News Agencies (a joint committee of Associated Press, Canadian Press and United Press International) to safeguard the telecommunications interests of the World's Press. Since the late 1970's IPTC's activities have primarily focused on developing and publishing Industry Standards for the interchange of news data. The organization is based in Windsor, UK, with members representing the world's major news agencies, news publishers and news industry vendors.

Capture integrates PLUS licensing standards into its asset management systemCapture a leading developer of image and digital asset management systems from the UK has announced that it has integrated the PLUS (Picture Licensing Universal System) standards into its web-based asset management system Capture Office Online (COO). According to a press release issued by the company “This means that the PLUS media matrix can be used in COO to specify standardized usage categories – and then generate prices easily (and the unique PLUS price code) by using COO’s price factoring facility”.

IPTC and Ifra photo metadata conference tacked onto CEPIC

Michelangelo's David with keywordsTwo of the most influential trade organizations in the European media, IPTC and Ifra, have organized the first international conference focused specifically on the topic of photo metadata. The event will take place in Florence, Italy on Thursday, June 7 of this year and will coincide with the annual CEPIC conference of picture archive companies. Adobe Systems, Inc. will sponsor the one-day conference.

IPTC publishes photo metadata software support list

The IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) has published a list of more than 50 software applications that support the photo metadata standards IIM (Information Interchange Model) and IPTC core. The list provides an outstanding overview of the usual software solutions utilizing IPTC standards along with comments from the corresponding software vendors.

PACA releases metadata standards

The President of the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA), Roger Ressmeyer, has published a letter to its membership concerning Metadata Standards. The new metadata standards, if they are widely accepted, would aid anyone involved in stock image licensing (Stock Photography Agencies, Photographers, Art Buyers, Etc...), to manage their image licensing activities more efficiently. In addition PACA hopes the new standards would prove beneficial for those who wish to submit their work to any of the anticipated global image registries intended to protect the copyright owner in the event that Orphan Works legislation is enacted.
