Lonely Planet contributing travel images to Navman
Lonely Planet Images has announced a deal with the satellite navigation company, Navman, to contribute images to be downloaded for free and viewed on GPS devices. The photos supplied by lonely planet contain unique geographical data which is coupled with NavPix™, a breakthrough technology that combines a picture of a place with its exact geographical coordinates. Consumers will no longer need to know the address for the places they are trying to find but can simply click on the picture and the GPS device will guide them to the selected landmark. Navman has created thousands of NavPix snapshots of various tourist attractions – hotels, shops, restaurants, and more – across 19 major cities including London, Paris, Milan and Madrid.“We’re thrilled to be working with Navman,” said Miranda Duffy, Business Development Manager at Lonely Planet Images. “This development in satellite technology illustration allows travellers to locate a specific destination and get information about what they will find once they get there.” “Our photographers at Lonely Planet Images are travel experts. The style of images they’ve supplied for NavPix™ is un-staged and natural which avoid clichés and focuses on capturing a wide range of destinations in the independent spirit of Lonely Planet.”
Prash Vadgama, president of the Consumer Navigation Group at Navman said: “Working hand-in-hand with Lonely Planet has been an exciting journey. Combining our mapping information with their local knowledge, this new package provides users with everything they need for an exciting, stress-free trip.”
