iStockphoto adds consumer video formats and additional languages
The leading microstock site, iStockphoto, Is now converting its video content to include the .wmv and .mp4 video formats to make the content easier to use without manipulation. The company has also added localized sites in Japanese, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Russian, making the Getty-owned microstock site fully searchable in 12 languages.
According to iStockphoto, which started offering footage in September 2006, has stated that its affordable price structure is attracting new customers who are less accustomed to using video. They don't always have video manipulation software and simply want to buy a clip and pop it into a presentation. The company anticipates that the inclusion of .wmv and .mp4 will make the footage easier to use.
In an interview with abouttheimage, iStockphoto’s founder and CEO, Bruce Livingstone, stated “Europe already makes up a very large part of our community and sales at iStock. We’ll continue to grow there, but will also be launching iStockphoto.jp in the summer of 2007. Japan is potentially a very interesting market for us.” True to his word, iStockphoto is now making all of its images searchable in twelve languages. In addition, a contributor can keyword an image in their native language and the company utilizes Getty Images’ controlled vocabulary to accurately translate tags into 11 other languages including the recently supported Japanese, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Polish, and Russian.
