IPTC and Ifra photo metadata conference tacked onto CEPIC
Two of the most influential trade organizations in the European media, IPTC and Ifra, have organized the first international conference focused specifically on the topic of photo metadata. The event will take place in Florence, Italy on Thursday, June 7 of this year and will coincide with the annual CEPIC conference of picture archive companies. Adobe Systems, Inc. will sponsor the one-day conference.
According to a press-release, “the goal of the conference is to simplify the convergence and global applicability of photo metadata, and determine how to maximize the widespread and consistent implementation of standards -- adding value to photos.”
The IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) created the IPTC Header, a nearly universally accepted template for organizing metadata to accompany digital image files. Participants in the conference, including camera makers, photographers, editors, software designers, photo licensing companies and others who have a stake in professional imaging will discuss ways to use new technologies to allow image files to carry even more in-depth metadata from the instant a photo is produced through licensing and final usage.
In addition to Adobe, other vendors to the photo industry will participate, such as Apple, Canon, Fotoware, Hasselblad and Microsoft.
