Featured New Artist: Ed McCulloch
Ed McCulloch is this week’s featured new artist from our friends at Aurora Photos. Aurora’s staff regularly seeks out new, up and coming photographers. Those whose material they find especially unique and exciting, they share with us to highlight on abouttheimage. We hope our readers will enjoy learning a little about these young pro-photographers and seeing examples of their outstanding work.
Ed McCulloch is an upcoming photographer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from both Utah Valley University and Miami Ad School, where he studied English Education at Utah Valley University and Art Direction at Miami Ad School. “Growing up I had always wanted to be an illustrator. Lacking sufficient hand eye coordination I turned to photography my senior year of high school. I immediately fell in love. I spent my late teen years shooting everything. Over time I started shooting only the things that interested me, people. I also enjoy the team aspect of photography. I love being able to concept an idea and along with my team produce and shoot it. There’s nothing better than collaborating on a project and watching it all unfold, McCulloch explains.”
When asked about his style of photography McCulloch comments, “My photos are well planned but not forced, capturing interesting characters in dynamic environments. The images engage the viewer, creating wonder about what came before and after the frozen moment.”
He continues, “I love interesting people. I portray these people how I envision them to be, not how they may be in real life. I create a story about these people; where they work, what they do for fun, what kind of transportation they use. Once I have the narrative down, I place them into scenes that tell my story.”
