Alaska Stock Images heads for warmer weather – new partnerships in Mexico and Brazil
Alaska Stock announced new non-exclusive partnerships in Mexico with Durga Archivo Digital de Imágenes, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico and in Brazil with Imageplus Produções Fotográficas Ltda. While images of dogsledding and snowcapped peaks might not seem like common needs for Mexican and Brazilian image-buyers, Gianfranco Coppola, Managing Director of Image Plus feels the Alaska Stock content improves his customer offering: “Alaska Stock has many great images and with an amazing quality. Their website is rich in content, stories, galleries, etc … Imageplus is proud to have such great content available for our customers. We do believe these images will enhance their work.” Alaska Stock’s owner, Jeff Schultz is excited about his company’s partnership with Image Plus and feels “…..they will have a unique market for our Alaska images.”

Creative Commons’ Joichi Ito joins Picscout
Joichi Ito, co-founder and Board member of Digital Garage and the CEO of Neoteny, has joined Picscout as an important member of its Advisory Board. Ito’s was excited to join the Israel-based image-tracking leader: “PicScout is bridging the interests of businesses and those of Internet users, supporting the hybrid sharing economy that is so crucial in getting past the destructive spiral that much of the online media business is in.” Ito has stated that he is pleased with Picscout’s adaptation of the work Creative Commons has contributed to the industry: “In addition, PicScout has agreed to interoperate with the open standards we are working on at Creative Commons.”

Electric Lane launches keywording service
Image industry consultancy Electric Lane has announced a new service to help picture agencies get their images in front of buyers. Electric Lane works with keywording expert Liisa Kaakinen to create controlled vocabularies to suit the needs of image libraries, their customers and their distributors. Electric Lane provides its customers with access to presentations, studies and recent articles on the use of controlled vocabularies, including presentations by Imense and Pixolution from the seminar on visual image search at the CEPIC Conference, which was chaired by the Director of Electric Lane, Sarah Saunders.

Blend Images wins design award for campaign by Spil Creative
Blend Images, a stock photography agency specializing in ethnically diverse business and lifestyle imagery, has announced that it has won an award in “The American Graphic Design Awards,” a national design competition sponsored by Graphic Design USA magazine, recognizing the best in graphic design and published in their Awards Annual released in early December. The award winning campaign won accolades in the “Advertising” category.

Fotolia reaches 8 million image mark
Leading microstock company Fotolia recently added its 8 millionth image, a new milestone for the popular image library. Fotolia adds 10,000 new images per day on average and in addition to its vast royalty free image collection the company also offers customers vector files and videos.

Image Source now offering Cross-Media Pack’s online
Image Source, a leading producer of royalty free stock imagery based in London, has announced that it has begun offering its‘Cross-Media Pack’ for online licensing. A Cross-Media Pack, is a collection of related content including approximately 50-80 still images and 10-30 motion clips that can be licensed together.

Nordic Photos celebrates 30th anniversary for MIRA
MIRA, created through the combination of Scandinavian photography collectives Saftra, Bildnian and Frilansguppen, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding. MIRA was acquired by Nordic Photos in 2003 and remains an important and visible brand for the Iceland-based company. The collection, which still includes its two founders as main contributors, also includes work from a number of new photographers, each contributing to the highly artistic and documentary-style feel the collection has been known for since its inception.

NANPA Foundation’s Philip Hyde Grant award goes to Paul Colangelo
The North American Nature Photography Association Foundation (NANPA) announced that Vancouver, BC’s Paul Colangelo would be the recipient of the $5000 Philip Hyde Grant for 2010, to be presented at the NANPA Summit in Reno this coming February. The grant is awarded annually to a NANPA member actively working on an environmental project.

Paramount Pictures launches online film clips site
The New York Times recently reported that Paramount Pictures has launched a footage licensing site, offering clips from its large archive of films to commercial users of stock footage. Paramount may eventually offer the clips to the consumer market but at this time have limited licensing to advertising agencies, corporations, broadcast companies and other commercial customers. The site allows visitors to search the archive on a frame-by-frame basis.

Diomedia teams up with Indigo Images to launch Diomedia Polska
Diomedia, a stock photography reseller based in London, has announced that it has partnered with Indigo Images from Poland to launch Diomedia Polska. This new joint venture is operating from the former Indigo Images office in Warsaw, servicing Polish clients effective Dec 1st 2009. The company has translated the entire Diomedia website into Polish including content from over 170 collections from leading brands.
