SnapVillage running fake ad contest for designers

Fake ad created by Brent Phelps of abouttheimage.com The marketing executives at the Corbis-owned micro-stock business, SnapVillage, have come up with a promotional scheme that is bound to attract interest among their target market and provide a few good laughs in the bargain.  Encouraging designers to “forget that pesky ‘client approval’ thing for a change,” the company has announced a fake ad contest.  Anyone who wants to participate can simply create their own ad for a fictional client using a free or watermarked image from SnapVillage.

Other micro-stock sites have offered photo contests and design contests of one sort or another to promote a sense of community (read: “loyalty”) on their web-sites.  The fake ad contest accomplishes that by also promoting a sense of humor and fun, to which everyone (or most people anyway) can relate.

The contest is open to US customers only from April 8 to July 8.  The first 5,000 entrants will receive a SnapVillage T-shirt.  The best six to eight entries will be posted on the SnapVillage web-site.
