Veer Competition: Creative Catalyst Winners
Above: To highlight some of the best entries, a short film has been made to promote the work, together with commentary from the judges on the competition process.
Barton Damer beat off stiff competition from more than 150 entrants to win the top prize in the Veer Creative Catalyst competition for his stunning artwork promoting the fatal risks of Malaria. His piece, an incredibly well crafted a multi-faceted depiction of the disease’s impact on the African continent, immediately caught the attention of the judging panel.
Damer will give his £2000 donation prize to Malaria No More UK. He was informed about the charity through a friend, who is a fundraiser himself, which inspired his design. He wanted the image to clearly resemble the African continent and show its beauty (the African Queen image) whilst also show the more disturbing aspects of life in Africa (including Malaria). In addition, he’ll have his work published in Computer Arts Magazine on January and receive 2,000 Veer credits – to aid his future creative projects.
In addition to Damer, nine runners up have been selected, with each winning a 1000 Veer credit pack and their work has been showcased at onedotzero, as well as being projected on a number of high profile locations in Berlin Mitte.
The runners up are:
· Play Your Part by It Starts
· We Were Here First by Orlando Facioli junior
· The Cruellest Disease by Richard Davies
· Water Aid by Nick Calvert
· Esst mehr Obst by Oleksandr Parkhomovskyy
· Konrad fährt gerne Traktor. Ganz einfach. by T. H. Barczyk
· Young Minds by Charles Williams
· The Gears of Mankind by Dan Erik Ronnback
· Eat Invasive Species! by Laurie Sumiye
The ‘Creative Catalyst’ competition provided a rare chance to create a standout piece with a social focus and generate attention for truly worthwhile causes. The entries showcased an eclectic range of creative abilities and promoted a varied portfolio of important causes.
