FotoWeek DC - Festival Events List
The fourth annual FotoWeek DC starts this Saturday, November 5th and runs through Saturday, November 12th.
They say: We are gearing up for another extraordinary festival and has put together some amazing special events. Whether a festival goer is visiting from out of town or part of the local community, these events are sure to bring the photography lover out in anyone who attends. The following are special highlighted events which should not be missed:
FotoWeek Central 2011 Launch Parties: November 4, 5:00pm-11:30pm
The festival kicks off with an exciting opening party starting at FotoWeek Central located at 1800 L St. NW, Washington, DC. Attendees will get an exclusive preview of this year’s exciting exhibitions including the winners of the FotoWeek DC International Awards Competition and World Press Photo 2011. At 8:30pm the party continues at the Corcoran Gallery of Art with projections and live music from DJ Fatback. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at both venues. NightVisions: November 5, 8:00pm – November 6, 4:00am
This overnight event taking place at FotoSpace, 1838 Columbia Road NW, is entertaining for photographers and visitors alike. Photographers throughout the DC area can shoot and submit work for this year’s theme “Nocturnal Visions.” The images are delivered to FotoSpace throughout the night and editors will choose one photo per applicant, print the image, and amass an instant exhibition. The newly created “Noctural Visions” exhibition will be on display throughout FotoWeekDC and for some time after. Slideluck Potshow DC VI: November 6, 7:30pm
Hosted at FotoWeek Central, this evening of great projected slides and food begins with mingling between artists and arts-appreciators while dining on the home-cooked delights of those who attend. The lights are then dimmed, the crowd is hushed, and a spectacular slideshow commences. This slideshow will feature emerging and established DC-area photographers and artists along with a selection of international work. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
12 Shots: November 7, 7:30pm
Taking place at FotoWeek Central, an inspired gathering featuring projected stories, from world renowned iLCP photographers. Storytelling is one of the main aspirations of iLCP photographers, while bringing conservation into focus. 12Shots brings together a series of photographic compilations, each consisting of twelve images by one photographer focused on a single storyline, is projected. Capitol PechaKucha Night Vol. 16: November 8, 7:30pm
PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in over 400 cities around the world, including DC, to inspire creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. Also referred to as “twitter for the visually inclined,” it is a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. Brightest Young Things: Young @ Heart II: November 10, 6:30pm
Over the course of four years, the dedicated and diverse www.brightestyoungthings.com photo staff has applied their unique points of view to capturing the young at heart of Washington DC in both work and play mode. With an archive that at last count included 108,602 there is no stone unturned when it comes to music, art, dancing or romancing in these photos. Showcasing a few hundred favorite at FotoWeek Central, this is not the event photography you’ve come to expect. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
Outernational DC: November 11, 8:00pm
Blending photographic images by Metro Collective curated by Claudi Carreras, live soundscape by Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation, and live image/video mixing by Robin Bell, this is a must attend special event at FotoWeek Central. Pre-show atmospherics by DJ Thomas Blondet of Eighteenth Street Lounge, and a live postshow party set by Funk Ark, a world funk ensemble, courtesy of ESL Music. FotoWeek Closing Party: November 12, 8:00 pm
Kick back and party at FotoSpace (1838 Columbia Road NW), the FotoWeekDC headquarters and gallery to celebrate the wrap up of another great FotoWeek Festival. Winning images from the Mobile Phone Contest will be projected. A DJ will keep things rolling and lite bites and drinks will be served. Tickets will be available on the website soon.
