Last chance to book in advance for the PACA (Picture Archive Council of America) Conference in New York (Midtown at the New York Marriott East Side) - October 21-23, 2011.
They sat: ‘This year, building on the agenda of previous years, our program will focus on the hot issues affecting the stock media industry. As ever, we’ll be looking to the future with our opening keynote speaker and carrying this inspiration through the PACA Conference program’.
Insights from a visionary software company on issues such as piracy will lead on to our legal session, looking at intellectual property and copyright from the stock industry standpoint.

PACA Announces Speaker Program for 2011 International Conference

The keynote speaker is Kathy Ryan, Director of Photography at the New York Times Magazine. Over 25 years at NY Times Magazine, Kathy has commissioned the top photographers and has a unique insight into choosing photographs that will speak to a mass audience.

In Understanding the Changing Media Landscape, Tom Kennedy will draw on his experience as Director of Photography for National Geographic and Managing Editor for Multimedia at the Washington Post to examine the challenges and opportunities presented by the altered media landscape.

Photographer and Filmmaker Gail Mooney gets personal in From Passion to Distribution. For her documentary Opening Our Eyes, Gail took a 99 day journey round the world, looking for people who are making a difference. She will explain what motivated her and how she used non-traditional distribution methods to generate revenue.

Sandra Aistars, Executive Director of the Copyright Alliance, will provide a legal update. Sandra will brief Conference attendees on important developments in copyright policy and how to make sure their rights are enforced.

Sunday’s opening speaker is James Pierson, Program Manager at Linden Lab. James will discuss Linden Lab’s Second Life as a creative tool, collaboration resource and community. He will also focus on the challenges created by a determined group of IP rights violators, and how to deal with them.

Sunday has three sessions hosted by Lee Torrens (Microstock Diaries) which will bring innovators in the stock photography community to share their experiences in new systems and technologies.
Time to Replace your Gut Instincts with Real Numbers and Logical Analysis will see Kelly Thompson (iStockphoto), Rahul Pathak (LookStat) and Lanny Ziering (SuperStock) discussing how to analyse what customers are buying and use that information to know what they will buy in future.
In ROI and Social Media, Lee and Viteszlav Valka (Pixmac) will look at whether it is possible to generate revenue using social media and, if so, how.
For Ingestion 2.0, Lee is joined by Jean-Marie Guyon (CandyBox Images), Alfonso Gutierrez (Age Fotostock) and Alan Capel (Alamy) to discuss how new technology can help photographers and agencies upload more content, keep costs low and generate more revenue.

Also, Jessica Berman-Bogdan (Global ImageWorks) will be hosting PACA’s first ever client panel on using motion, to bring attendees’ understanding of how clients use motion right up to date.
