Paramount Pictures launches online film clips site
The New York Times recently reported that Paramount Pictures has launched a footage licensing site, offering clips from its large archive of films to commercial users of stock footage. Paramount may eventually offer the clips to the consumer market but at this time have limited licensing to advertising agencies, corporations, broadcast companies and other commercial customers. The site allows visitors to search the archive on a frame-by-frame basis.
Registration to use the site is restricted to customers approved by Paramount staffers. When a user registers, their registration request is routed to Paramount for approval before they can search the archive. Pricing information for the clips is also not readily available for the initial set of movies offered on the site, including “Top Gun”, “Forest Gump”, “Ghost” and “It’s A Wonderful Life”, to name a few.
Paramount hopes the site will drive new revenue in a very cost-efficient manner and their move could spark others in the industry to follow with similar launches during 2010. Stay tuned…..
