Getty Images adds Flickr photo clouds feature to site
Getty Images, who first announced a deal with Flickr to monetize user-generated content from the photo-sharing site in July 2008, has just announced a new phase in the company’s campaign behind The Flickr Collection by adding a Flickr photo clouds feature to its site. This new feature lets users visually group images that catch their eye and share them as part of a social networking/creative inspiration experience.
Just how does this provide inspiration for creatives? Acoording to a recent press release Getty explains “In the past, users could search the Flickr collection based on keywords and review images on a standard search results page. These new image clouds are fully searchable in three different ways: via a particular username, keyword or cloud topic”. For example, a user looking for inspiration around “winter” can either review all image clouds that contain an image with the keyword “winter,” or simply review image clouds with “winter” in the cloud title, regardless of the image keywords. By allowing community members to see how other users envision a particular topic or theme, the new application will help to spark new ideas.
Users can share their clouds with the community, download a desktop widget and screensaver, export their clouds to Facebook, view other users’ clouds, mark favorites and follow fellow users. These additional tools were added to The Flickr Collection to help develop an inspiring, living community for creative professionals and photographers on gettyimages.com.
