Canada Post selects Image from Alaska Stock to raise awareness about global warming
Alaska Stock Images, a specialty agency featuring photos from from Alaska and Antarctica, has announced that a polar bear image from its archive has been selected by Canada Post to be used as part of an international postal awareness campaign on the effects of global warming. The image of the lone polar bear swimming in melting sea ice in Bellot Strait near Resolute Bay was created by Alaska Stock photographer Amanda Byrd. “I am truly honored that my image of the polar bear has been chosen to be part of Canada Post’s commitment of global warming awareness, and I am excited that this stamp will be viewed in some 30 other countries,” remarked Amanda.
Designed by stamp designer Tiit Telmet of Toronto’s Telmet Design Associates, the photo is one of two scheduled to be issued under the theme, “Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers,” and is global partnership to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change as well as the many creatures impacted by its effects. The Official First Day Cover will bear the cancel Eureka Nunavut, the home of Canada’s most northerly post office.
“Canada Post is proud to be one of 27 postal administrations participating in this international awareness campaign”, says Alain Leduc, Canada Post Manager of Stamp Products. “We know that Canadians are very concerned about the environment, so it seems only fitting that we are participating in this important stamp issue that involved countries from around the globe.”

Resolute Bay and Bellot Strait are in Canada, not Alaska.
