Based in Northern Virginia, outside of D.C. many photographers and impressionistic painters influence his work. “I don’t think I could pin down a person that has influenced me but photographers like Cartier-Bresson, Ralph Gibson or Eugene Smith did lay down a ground work where I could build from. I do enjoy many style of photography but I do tend to gravitate towards more simple style of capturing the photos as it happen.”

He got into photography long before I made my first exposure. “I don’t know if it was Life magazine or what but I remember seeing a photo that transmitted a feeling inside me. That effect is what interest me about photography. How a person’s feeling can be transmitted through the light bouncing off the subject entering the lens and making an exposure ("capture" in digital). Even more interesting is the fact that different photographer can comeback with totally different pictures from the same location or subject. I think photography captures what the photographer values. So in a way your pictures show who you are as a person.”

Dan is currently working on a long term project on night pictures. “I love to travel by the road. Along the highway there are so many interesting pictures that I see. These pictures are only possible at night because how it is lit by artificial lighting. I hope to travel along the highway at night taking pictures across the country. To me the American highway system is fascinating.  It is the bloodstream of the country. I’m sure that many of us have seen the same things that I’ve seen but I’ll do it with my little twist.”
