Redferns Music Picture Library acquired by Getty Images
Getty Images, the worlds largest stock licensing company has announced the acquisition of the London-Based Redferns Music Picture Library. Founded by British photographer David Redfern in the early 1960’s, the Redferns music picture library offers music imagery ranging from 18th century classical composers to the headliners of today. The collection of more than 30,000 images will be incorporated into the Getty Images site under the respected Redferns brand name as soon as February 2009.
In addition, David Redfern will also be working with Getty Images as a contributing photographer, as well as acting in a consultancy role. Redfern stated: ‘This is an incredible opportunity for the Redferns Collection. I am personally thrilled as a photographer to have more time to do what I love most – taking pictures.’
Matthew Butson, vice president, Getty Images’ Hulton Archive, said: “From January 2009, customers will be able to license Redferns’ iconic imagery, ranging from classical, country, jazz and blues to rock, pop and hip hop - and everything in between. The Redferns collection will greatly complement and strengthen our already formidable music offering and customers will be able to access and license the most extensive range of music imagery from the one platform. We are delighted that founder David Redfern will be joining us as he brings with him a wealth of experience, having photographed everyone and anyone over the past 50 years, from Miles Davis and B.B. King to Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles”.
