The Image Works celebrates 25 years The Image Works is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary making it one of the oldest stock photography companies in the united states. The business was founded in 1983 by photographers Alan Carey and Mark Antman shortly after meeting while covering a Duck Calling Contest. At the time, Alan Carey was chief photographer for a regional daily newspaper and Mark Antman had just returned to the United States after living in France for a decade working as a documentary photojournalist. Shortly after the pair launched the business in the world famous historic arts colony of Woodstock, NY.

The founders describe the first decade of operation as “a period of growth and definition as the agency established its position as a primary resource for real life editorial imagery.” In it’s second decade “The company has has experienced rapid growth taking full advantage of technological advances with an extremely flexible and adaptive digital image management system that permits rapid addition of new material to the archive while insuring the highest quality standards”.

In addition to celebrating 25 years the company continues to add to its collection with four new collections; AKG Images (Germany), the British Museum of Natural History (Great Britain), Photo 12 (France), and the Auscape Natural History Archive (Australia). In a recent press release the company stated “The addition of these collections is one more step towards achieving the goal of creating a unified, comprehensive archive of exceptional contemporary and historical images”.
