Corbis laying-off 15% of staffCorbis, widely believed to be the world’s 2nd largest stock licensing company, is cutting slightly more than 15% of its global headcount of 1075 in an effort to further streamline the business. This round of cuts follows a similar lay-off last November which included 125 employees in order to downsize its customer service operations, and may be the result of redundancies created from the acquisition of Veer last year.  According to Dan Perlet the Director of Communications at Corbis, the company has let approximately 50-75 employees go this week, including senior executives, and has notified the other employees whose jobs are being cut in the coming year. Perlet explained “We believe that restructuring our personnel gives us a better position to gain market-share in a competitive marketplace”.

The Bill Gates owned company has also made several noteworthy changes among its top executive including the appointments of Don Wieshlow (Former VP of products for Veer) as SVP of Products, Nairn Nerland (Former COO for Veer) SVP of Networks, and Vivian Farris (Former VP of Human Resources for Veer) as SVP of Human Resources. Current executives Ross Sutherland (Chief Creative Officer for Corbis), and Adam Brotman (SVP of Corbis.com & SnapVillage for Corbis) have been cut and Brad Zumwalt (Former President of Veer) will transition into the role of an Advisor for Corbis. The company has also stated plans to consolidate redundant Veer offices in NY and Dusseldorf in the coming year.

Daaaaang.  Sign o’ the times, or really just a ‘streamline’?

Sounds more like Veer acquired Corbis rather than the other way around.

Corbis is laying off people since 2001 every single year.
What a company....

What a miserable state of affairs for all those employees shuffled around like pawns in a game!  How can this company “widely believed to be the world’s 2nd largest stock licensing company”, be a successful enterprise when it is continually shedding personnel???  What a company indeed…
