Tom Sperduto was introduced to photography in the Coast Guard as a public affairs specialist. His duties ranged from writing, media relations to photography. He explains “My passion began as writing but quickly turned to photography when I fell in love with taking pictures while attending the Department of Defense (DOD) Military Photographers Workshop at Fort Meade, MD.” Since then he has attended the Eddie Adams Workshop and return yearly as a member of Black Team.

Based in Edison, NJ Tom’s work is primarily portraiture. He describes himself as “Creative on location portrait photographer with an editorial feel to my commercial work. I strive for all of my images to be focused on the gesture of who people really are, complemented by light and color.”

When asked about what interests him the most about photography he replied “The ability to capture a person’s gesture in a portrait by establishing trust through honesty and a desire to capture who people really are in a photograph. I am interested in seeking the deeper meaning of people and capturing the strength, beauty, and frailty of the human spirit.”

I am currently on assignment for the Wounded Warrior Project photographing portraits of wounded veterans home from war. The goal of the campaign is to show that though these wounded warriors are now home they still need support.
