iStock announces Punctum Day awards and incentives for exclusive contributors
iStockphoto, the micro-stock business owned by Getty images has announced it will repeat the so-called “Punctum Day” awards on August 19. Last year, the company gave awards to contributors of various categories of content. In addition, iStock has announced several incentives for exclusive contributors; it will give 100% of revenue to its exclusive photographers whose images sell on a given date to be announced after the fact; it will allow more photographers to participate in its program to allow iStock contributors to submit to Photodisc; and it will offer personalized keywording assistance to exclusive photographers.
Like last year, the awards given on Punctum Day, (Punctum is the strong emotional reaction you have to a stunning image, the company says) will include Photo of the Year, Vector of the Year, Video of the Year, Flash file of the Year, Design of the Year. iStock will add two more awards this time around: Most Improved Contributor of the Year which will earn the winner a $5,000 USD prize and Most Deserving of a New Camera, for which the winner will receive a Canon or Nikon camera worth $5,000.
The privilege of joining the Photodisc program will now be offered to Silver artists (those with at least 2,500 downloads) whereas last year the company extended the opportunity only to those with a minimum of 5,000 downloads. iStock is making its keyword standards more stringent and will be rejecting more files with poor metadata. However, those who become exclusive will never be rejected for incorrect keywords and will receive personalized assistance with this task.
