Corbis re-brands and expands its rights services unitCorbis announced that it has renamed its Rights Services division with the more up-beat sounding “GreenLight.”  The new brand name for the division which assists clients to clear rights to celebrity likenesses, feature film and TV clips, music, trademarks, for use in advertising, comes with the addition of a new business activity, that of Talent Negotiation.  Under the GreenLight brand, Corbis will now also help marketers to broker endorsement deals with sports, film, television, music and other celebrities for new product launches as well as for advertising and marketing campaigns.

SVP Mark Sherman will head the GreenLight unit for Corbis.  “Our mantra is that ‘It’s easy when you know who’ — and we have relationships with the key agents, music publishers, TV and film studios and other rights holders in Hollywood and around the world,” said Sherman. “We’re one of the most experienced global rights services firms, with a team of dedicated experts across three continents. And to protect our clients, we indemnify them for the rights we clear.”

The GreenLight division will be headquartered in Los Angeles, but will serve clients world-wide through it’s parent company’s network of offices.  Its expansion reflects, in part, CEO Gary Shenk’s experience and background in the rights clearances division where he started with the company in 2003, and his previous career in the film industry. “There is phenomenal growth in the use of music and other iconic content in both advertising and consumer products, and the launch of GreenLight underscores what we see as a huge long term trend and business opportunity,” Shenk said.

GreenLight’s new visual identity, logo, website and brand essence embody the company’s mission to help companies and advertisers to quickly get approval for – or “green light” – creative projects that require the use of iconic celebrities, music, film, TV or other intellectual property.
