Linda Royles resigns from BAPLAAfter ten years at the helm of the British Association of Picture Libraries and Archives (BAPLA,) Linda Royles has resigned from the position of CEO of the trade organization.  Having overseen BAPLA during a period of dramatic technological change and upheaval in the stock photo industry, she leaves it “in an excellent position to move forward,” according to the organization’s web-site.  BAPLA has said it will take this opportunity to undertake a major strategic review of the organization to be conducted by Simon Cave of Spencer Cave Consulting.

Royles’ decade at BAPLA began just as many British picture agencies were grappling with the demands new digital technologies place on picture library management.  She became involved in the many issues that sprang from the digital transformation of the industry such as technical standardization and media rights. Royles served as Director on the Digital Content Forum, and on the British Copyright Council, Picture Industry Council, British Photographers Liaison Committee, Creators Rights Alliance and numerous IP strategy groups.

As business models began to emerge Linda found her work moved towards lobbying on rights and working with media clients and industry bodies to gain a broader understanding of trends in media rights. Linda served as Director on the Digital Content Forum, and on the British Copyright Council, Picture Industry Council, British Photographers Liaison Committee, Creators Rights Alliance and numerous IP strategy groups. In 2006 she was publicly awarded by BAPLA for her contribution to the industry.

Royles was also responsible for creating the BAPLA Picture Buyer Fair, an annual event now in its seventh year that brings together image sellers and producers with art-buyers and designers.

Angela Anderson, an image industry veteran of over 22 years, has taken the position of Operations Manager at BAPLA during the strategic review.
