Getty representing film scores from Lionsgate including the music from 3:10 to YumaGetty Images continues to pursue avenues of growth apart from its principal business activity of licensing still photography.  On the audio content licensing front, Getty has just signed a deal with the independent film production company, Lionsgate, whose most recent feature film ‘3:10 to Yuma,’ received an Oscar nomination for its musical score.  The deal includes scores from other well-known Lionsgate films ‘Monster’s Ball’ and ‘Crash’ as well as music from the company’s television productions.

Getty entered the music licensing business with the $42MM purchase of Pump Audio in June of last year.  Getty subsequently launched Soundtrack, a proprietary audio search tool to facilitate searching through pump Audio’s extensive sound library.  “The Soundtrack tool from Getty Images allows creative professionals to easily find, license and use the broad array of exciting content in Lionsgate’s growing music library,” said Jay Faires, Lionsgate president of music and publishing. “Because the gettyimages.com site receives four million unique visitors per month, bringing our music to Getty Images exponentially increases consumer access to our product. Our partnership reflects Lionsgate’s commitment to unique relationships incorporating state-of-the-art technology to continue growing our music business.”

Getty says it will soon also add “popular artists and titles” to its alternative music collection.

That’s good news. Technology can make the music business a lot better, that’s for sure.
