AP Images now representing archival television photos from NBC Universal
NBC Universal has announced the appointment of AP Images to represent its archive of archival television photos. The deal provides AP Images with exclusive third-party distribution rights in the U. S. and Mexico, and the rights to license the content non-exclusively throughout much of the world. NBCU’s archive includes tens of millions of images which is continually being digitized by NBCU’s digital media distribution group.
“This valuable new relationship with AP Images confirms NBC Universal’s status as the entertainment industry leader in photo asset capitalization,” said Kevin Fitzgerald, Vice President, Digital Media Distribution. “The Associated Press is the world’s most visible and credible brand in news and entertainment photography, and we at NBCU Photo Bank see tremendous potential in having our unique photos distributed through AP Images.”
NBCU launched its NBC Universal Photo Bank in July 2006 under the direction of Kevin Fitzgerald, Vice President, Digital Media Distribution. Fitzgerald is supported by a New York-based sales team under the direction of Douglas Root.
“Associated Press is the premier news syndication outlet, which makes it the ideal partner to distribute NBC Universal television photo content,” said Ray Slay, Senior Vice President, NBC Universal Photography and New Media. “Now, clients and photo buyers will have the option of accessing NBC Universal’s photo assets through AP Images’ extensive photo licensing site in addition to NBC Universal Photo Bank.”
