Thought Equity Motion now handling rights and clearances
The Denver, CO based footage library, Thought Equity Motion, has announced that it will now offer a full-service Rights and Clearances Department. This means that potential customers can request support to acquire proper licensing in order to use footage previously unavailable for commercial applications. The Rights and Clearances Department will manage talent, property, sports and music clearances, along with indemnification to provide clients with professional risk-free use of any cleared content.
“Clearance is the key to unlocking the value of content. The creative possibilities are immense,” stated Kevin Schaff, CEO of Thought Equity Motion. “It is exciting to think of the stories that can be told or the creative that can be generated from content that was once deemed untouchable. The next generation of media licensing will revolve around motion content, and certain types of motion content can be very tricky, even risky, to license for commercial use. Professional agencies and entertainment companies can’t afford to take any risk in licensing content, and now they don’t need to. They can tell their stories without concern about rights and clearances issues because we will handle the process for them up front to help them avoid any surprises.”
The service supports clients who would like to use content where a personality, property, or other type of release is required. Thought Equity Motion will work with the client as a professional licensing partner helping to secure the permissions needed to fully implement their creative vision.
“The video content within our library contains some of the best conceptual footage available across 23 sports and 88 NCAA championships. Our championships demonstrate teamwork, challenges, sportsmanship and achievement and our NCAA Corporate Champions and Partners are drawn to make these connections in their advertising and promotions,” said Greg Weitekamp, Director of Broadcasting at the NCAA. “Because of the complexities of the rights and clearances related to current NCAA student-athletes, individual’s likeness, and institutional trademarks, it has been difficult for our partners to utilize and leverage these great moments in sports competitions. By outsourcing the rights and clearances functions to Thought Equity Motion it allows our Corporate Champions and Partners like AT&T, The Hartford and Enterprise Rent-A-Car to make these connections easier than before.”
To manage this part of the business, Thought Equity has appointed Michael Sajkowicz and Shannon Dunn as Rights and Clearances Directors. Michael Sajkowicz brings 17 years experience in the footage licensing industry, having served in previous roles as Rights and Clearances Project Manager at Getty Images and as Senior Researcher at Corbis Rights Clearance.
