Jonathan Gibson leaves JupiterImages to launch OJO Images
Jonathan Gibson, who for the last several years has managed Jupiter Images’ distribution channel network, has left that company to found a royalty free production company called OJO Images (“OJO” coming from the Spanish word for “eye.”). Gibson has put together an impressive roster of highly successful stock photographers for his company, including Chris Ryan, Robert Daly, Chris Newton, Matt Hind, Martin Barraud and Justin Pumfrey.
Gibson plans to take a “quality, not quantity” approach. “To produce the best images you have to have the best photographers shooting with the highest production values,” he says, adding, “This is OJO’s focus – to create fewer images but ones that sell more often.” Nonetheless, the group have set an ambitious production schedule for themselves, promising over seven thousand images on over seventy VCD titles by the end of this year and over fifteen thousand images within the next eighteen months. OJO Images’ impressive photographer line-up and Gibson’s extensive experience and positive reputation in the industry should make for a winning combination. The company has already signed distribution agreements with Getty Images and Masterfile.
