Vintage stock photography site launches at RetroStockPix.com
A new site for vintage stock photography has launched at RetroStockPix.com. The site hails from Moorestown, NJ, and features the archives of Aladdin Color. Aladdin Color was started in 1957 by David Bard who created the images along with a few other staff photographers. In 1976 David Bard’s son Eric Bard continued in his father footsteps and began shooting for the business which he currently operates. The collection features images from the 1950´s & 60´s including the worlds largest collection of photographs from Wildwood, New Jersey's Doo Wop style Motels.
The National Historic Trust, recently named Wildwood, New Jersey one of its 11 Most Endangered places. Eric Bard offers the following explanation for the recent interest. “The real estate boom caught up to Wildwood in 2002 and developers bought the old Doo Wop motels that made the Wildwood's unique. They demolished the motels and built a bunch of condos. In the last 5 years over 100 of these interesting motels were torn down. There has been a lot of interest in the old images, and a bunch of magazines have been doing articles using my images.”
The RetroStockPix collection was launched with approximately 10,000 images and the complete archive includes a deep file of more than 95,000 images. The company plans to scan more images to be added to the collection periodically. Due to the lack of model releases, the RetroStockPix collection is of primary interest to editorial customers. A selected set of the images are also represented by Corbis & JupiterImages.
