DesignPics and The Irish Collection now in the hands of Canadian investment group Stock Collectors IncThe investment group Stock Collectors Inc, working on behalf of the Edmonton, Canada based RF production company, Design Pics Inc. (DPI,) has acquired The Irish Image Collection, founded by George Munday and based in Waterford, Ireland. Design Pics will open a London office to manage The Irish Image Collection and create new rights managed and royalty free content. The Irish Image Collection was audited by The Virtual Picture Desk (managed by George Sinclair) who will now edit the Collection for global syndication and will assist with the management of international distribution.

With over 20,000 rights managed images by over 100 photographers, The Irish Image Collection covers the whole spectrum of Ireland and Northern Ireland, including land and city scapes, lifestyles, business & technology, travel, culture and Irish heritage, social and political scenes, as well as diverse and ethnic subject matter. Those images in the collection that are wholly owned, approximately one third of the archive, will be considered for conversion to royalty free.

“We are obviously delighted to have this Collection” said Rick Carlson, President of Design Pics Inc.  “It will provide us with rights managed content in addition to our ownership and representation of royalty free imagery, to further expand our international business, as well as providing a base for developing European content.”

“We have built up the Collection to be the pre-eminent source of iconic photographic imagery of Ireland,” stated George Munday. “The investment by DPI in marketing and distribution will provide the opportunity for global and international licensing.  The sale of the Collection will allow me to concentrate on photography, writing and the educational programs we provide for photographers at our Copper Coast Workshops here in Waterford, Ireland.”
