LightBox Network: online workflow for all
David Alexander, an experienced professional photographer and photo lab owner, and James Sorensen, a veteran celebrity photographer, both of Los Angeles, have teamed up to develop a new online workflow system called LightBox Network (LBN.) The system boasts a wide array of features designed to serve every party to the digital photo workflow process from photographers to clients and photo agencies. Alexander and Sorensen developed their system and its unique features over several years by testing it with demanding clients such as the ABC and NBC television networks, among others. They introduced their system to the market at PhotoPlus in New York November, 2006, and officially launched the business this week.
LBN offers photographers its online system for $19.95 per month, which includes one Giga-Byte of storage, with additional Giga-Bytes going for $5.00. In addition, LBN offers features designed to simplify other aspects of digital image processing, such as an image submission system for agencies, metadata management, and archiving for any company or organization that works with photos. The most intriguing among this system’s capabilities, its LIVE software (featuring Live Shoot, Live Prep, Live Upload & Live Sort,) integrates with the LightBox Network system, enabling the uploading of images as they are being captured, making it possible to art direct and edit remotely while a live photo shoot is underway.
"The LightBox Network is based on the idea of simplifying the time-consuming tasks of a photography project, which include image uploading; editing, ranking of images; multi-level collaborations; retouch and other communications; comparing of images; comparing retouched and un-retouched images; and the delivery of final full resolution selected images, with time saving and economic efficiency regardless of location," said Alexander.
LBN enters an already crowded field of technology companies providing online workflow and archiving solutions to photographers. Competitors include Digital Railroad, Global Edit, DF Studio and PhotoShelter. Nonetheless, LBN’s creators, who already work with an impressive list of clients believe they’ll have no trouble finding more. "The photography industry, moving forward, requires online workflow. Markets, clients, photographers and assignments are becoming more global in scope by the day," said Sorensen, adding, "The need for speedy access to images, editing, retouching and delivery is constantly increasing and can now be accomplished with the click of a button. LBN is positioned at the forefront of transforming the way work is done in the photography industry, now and well into the future."
