iStock makes aggressive push into video
Getty Images’ iStockphoto, which launched of its royalty free video offering in September of 2006 has announced it now has over 12,000 video clips available on its site from over 350 contributors. In keeping with their aggressive still image pricing, the company offers video clip licenses for as little as $5.00, a dramatically low price when compared the typical single clip fee of over $100 and sometimes much more from RF stock video supplier companies.
iStock offers video clips for various resolution sizes as follows:
Small [320x240] - Starting at $5
Medium [640x480] - Starting at $10
Large [720x486 NTSC/PAL] - Starting at $20
HD 720 [1280x720] - Starting at $35
HD 1080 [1920x1080] - Starting at $50
“2006 proved to be the year that people understood that the consumer has become his/her own brand manager and social networks built around common interests are here to stay,” said Bruce Livingstone, founder and CEO of iStockphoto. “The iStock community has grown tremendously this year because contributors are able to express themselves creatively while actually profiting from their work and our clients can always find an image or a video that looks cutting-edge and current at affordable prices.”
The company conducted an on-line survey which offered surprising figures for the RF video business. Of the 18,000 respondents to the survey, 29% (5,220) say they purchase stock video monthly, while 12% (2,160) say they purchase it weekly. iStock says simple themes, such as water, people, business, clouds, backgrounds, and seasonal holiday items make up the most commonly sought RF video subjects.
