Stock Artists Alliance opens arms to all professional photographers

Welcome To Fabulous Stock Artists Alliance! The Stock Artist Alliance (SAA) a five year old trade organization for Stock Photographers has announced that it has recently voted to accept any professional photographer who is involved or interested in stock photography as a member. Previously the organization only accepted members who were in the business of licensing rights-managed (RM) images. The new change implies that photographers who offer images with royalty-free (RF) or micropayment models will be accepted as members. However, the SAA stated in a press release that it will continue to “advocate that the best business models for photographers are ones that manage usage and protect their intellectual property”.

The SAA Board acknowledged that the change "recognizes the evolution within our current membership and the value of extending membership to all professional stock photographers," adding that "in doing so, we believe SAA will be stronger and more influential as an organization and more effective in the industry as an advocate for all our members." 2006 SAA President David Sanger had this to say about the change. "The principles of SAA include fair business practices, an equitable split of revenue, shared risk and responsibility, mutual trust and respect, and recognition of the rights of the creator. These have not changed and they transcend any specific licensing model. We believe that the same principles should apply to all stock photography contracts."
