Paul Gauguin painting copied from photographOne might be familiar with the process of photographing fine art paintings in order to easily preserve and distribute the image around the world. However, you may be surprised to learn that many of the paintings created by impressionists actually originated as a photograph. According to the Spanish web page Fogonasos such noteworthy artists as Paul Gauguin, Paul Cezanne, Toulouse Lautrec, Vincent Van Gogh, and Edgar Degas all created paintings from photographic originals. Most of the Impressionists had cameras and the process of painting from a photograph allowed them to capture the moment in a way not possible before.
