Contrast acquired by Austria Press Agency
The APA (Austria Press Agency) has announced the acquisition of Contrast photo GmbH, one of the most well-known picture agencies in Austria. As a result, APA has stated that substantial restructuring will occur for both enterprises: By the end of the year, APA images, a division of the press agency, will be merged into the Contrast photo GmbH. The new enterprise will then be named APA PictureDesk GmbH. The two picture agencies have combined billings of 1.5 million EUR and a combined offering of over three million pictures on-line.
The management team for the new picture agency will consist of Michael Vogel, the leader of APA images, Gerhard Hinterleitner, the managing director of the Contrast photo GmbH, and Krisztina Fehrer, the head of the APA accounting system. Edith Dörfler, who managed the accounting department at APA images together with Michael bird, will move next year in the spring to become a consultant to the place of Krisztina Fehrer.
Gerhard Hinterleitner speaks candidly about the reasons of sale: "Contrast was a small picture agency with few employees, an enormous archive, and limitations with technology and marketing. Because of these limitations, APA is the ideal partner to help deliver the Contrast content to more potential customers."
