national_trust_photo_libraryBangkok Thailand based OnAsia Digital has announced a contract to begin keywording the image collection of Britain’s National Trust. OnAsia Digital had completed a similar assignment for the UK’s National Gallery in 2005. The company launched its keywording service four years ago based on its own proprietary metadata management technology including a thesaurus of more than 30,000 terms. OnAsia Digital boasts that it has keyworded over 200,000 images and has stated plans to release a desktop version of its keywording technology before the end of 2006.

“We are very aware of the value of keywording and feel confident that OnAsia Digital’s service will enhance the ability of users to accurately retrieve images from The National Trust Photo Library. Precise search results are essential to making our image database a valuable tool for editors and the public. And delivering accurate search results is directly linked to the relevance of selected keywords,” said Victoria Skeet of The National Trust Photo Library. “Once we had become an on-line service, viewable by users around the world, we knew that we had the potential to reach a huge audience. We are very happy to be working with OnAsia to make those images easily and effectively accessible.”

“We enjoy working on these specialized collections because the subject matter is challenging and we find ourselves learning so much. Each new archive presents a new challenge for us and makes us better equipped for the next job,” explained Yvan Cohen, an OnAsia Digital Director and one of the company’s founders.
