crestock_with_fluorideCrestock, a new micro-stock site, based in Bodø, a town in Northern Norway, has launched a subscription service offering image buyers 20 image downloads per day for $149.00 for one month or $1,499 for one year. Image file sizes vary, but the largest size offered for most allows for a 7" x 10" reproduction at 300 dpi, roughly the equivalent of the medium-res. files offered for most RF images. The company's single image prices slightly exceed those of the typical micro-stock sites; 4 mega pixel images go for $5 each and 6-8 mega pixel images (the medium res.) go for $10 each.Crestock, whose name is a condensed version of Creative Stock Images, was founded less than a year ago by Norwegian entrepreneur, Geir Are Jensen. Mr. Jensen has more than 10 years of experience in the media and magazine publishing sector, half of them working with TV2, Norway's largest commercial television broadcaster.

The company plans to compete on image quality. According to Lars Hasvoll Bakke, a company spokesperson, "Our library may not be as large as some others, but we are very happy about the quality level we have achieved. We do get a fair amount of complaints from annoyed or irritated photographers who think our quality standards are outrageous, but this is something we have to expect. We would get very popular with our contributors if we where to accept everything in an instance, but we feel that image quality is of the utmost importance, so we will instead try to respond to complaints in a friendly manner, perhaps offering some friendly ideas for how they could improve their work."

Crestock's registered users, who number approximately 10,000 as of this writing, come from the following regions of the globe: Europe 41% (Scandinavia accounts for 7% of the world total) The Americas: 32% Asia and Oceania: 24% Africa: 3%.
