APL_Joins_CorbisCorbis announced today the acquisition of one of Australia’s leading stock photo agencies, Australian Picture Library (APL,) based in Sydney. APL, established in 1979, has represented Corbis in its market for the past three years. The companies plan to fully integrate APL’s operations into Corbis by March of 2007.

With the acquisition, Corbis will have direct access to clients in Australia allowing the company to offer its full range of services, including custom production and Corbis rights and music clearance services.  “APL has been our sales representative for the last three years, and we experienced strong demand for the breadth and depth of Corbis images collections,” said Steve Davis, President and CEO of Corbis.

Corbis will also reap the benefit of APL’s stable of photographers. “We are also committed to producing great content on a regional basis, and are pleased to have the opportunity to work with many of Australia’s most talented photographers,“ says Wil Merritt, Corbis Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales. Chris Boydell, Managing Director of APL agrees. “Becoming part of the Corbis network brings our capabilities to a whole new level,” he explained. “With access to creative and editorial images from contemporary and archival photography to fine art, illustrations and motion footage, we see unlimited opportunity to help clients differentiate brands and sell products on any media platform. Our photographers will also benefit from Corbis’ global distribution, unparalleled copyright support, and global sales network.
