Corbis announced today that it has signed a number of new agreements to represent an impressive list of iconic brands from the entertainment industry. Earlier this year, CEO Steve Davis told analysts in New York that the company would expand its Rights Representation business and establish itself as the leading provider of rights clearance services .  This week, he has made good on that promise landing representation deals with several brands of pop-cultural significance.  Prominent among these household names are Playboy, Bozo the Clown and Laurel and Hardy.

This is the first time Playboy will allow a visual solutions provider to license its imagery for commercial use.  The unique and original content will be available through Corbis beginning September 5, 2006.  The collection, which combines retro images that reflect the brand's rich heritage with contemporary classics, includes illustrations, pictures of Hugh Hefner and Playboy Bunnies, as well as lifestyle images.  Corbis also added humorist personas Bozo The Clown and Laurel and Hardy, and the well-known television archives of dick clark productions (producers of American bandstand) and Hollywood Licensing to its Rights Representation roster.

The company's Rights Representation exclusively represents the name, image and likeness of many Hollywood legends and world-renowned innovators and can quickly provide both content and the right to use them for campaigns and projects.  Creative professionals who want to lend the Playboy lifestyle sensibility to a campaign, or add the slap-stick humor of Bozo and Laurel and Hardy or evoke the nostalgic, healthy good times of American Bandstand, can now secure rights clearances and license visuals from Corbis.

Speaking of the Playboy deal, Gary Shenk, senior vice president of images at Corbis said, “Playboy sets the gold standard as an international consumer brand. Their images are classic, iconic, fun, and connect with people in the same way Playboy always has.  “We’re thrilled to partner with Playboy, making the images available around the world.”

On a decidedly more family oriented entertainment front, Bozo the clown, and Laurel and Hardy make up two of the most well-known comedy acts of the twentieth century.  Corbis also now represents thousands of hours of dick clark productions performance footage from some of the greatest headliners in music, including Bobby Darrin, James Brown, The Doors, Madonna, Johnny Cash, Blondie, and the legendary American Bandstand dancers.
