Minnesota Vikings restrict coverage of injured players during practice
The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) has reported on restrictions placed on photographers covering practice for the NFL’ Minnesota Vikings. The Coaches and PR staff of the Minnesota Vikings published instructions requiring press photographers and Videographers must immediately stop filming or shooting images, in the event that one the players gets hurt. In addition the media has been warned that violating the policy will result in “consequences.” The threatened consequences could be quite serious, since the National Football League and individual teams can refuse the entrance to NFL practices and games at its own discretion.
According to an NFL spokesperson team owners are “within their rights” to control what the news media has access to during games, and for team practice sessions there are no NFL rules or policies that mandate that practice be open to the media at all. A few other NFL teams have similar policies including the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers, while some teams have closed practice to the media completely. Stefan Hartmann, VISUELL
