Can Stock Photo celebrates 2nd birthday
The micropayment site Can Stock Photo, first launched in June of 2004 when many of us had not heard much about micro-payment stock photography, now celebrates its 2nd anniversary. The 2-year old Can Stock Photo is boasting many noteworthy accomplishments in its short history including more than 215,000 images online, over 15,700 active members, 3,000 contributing photographers, and millions of page views each month. The stock photography industry in the last two years has changed quite a bit after seeing the continued rise of micropayment sites which capitalize on the widespread use of pro-sumer digital cameras and the concept of crowd-sourcing. Our world is a different place where images are now produced and consumed by a much larger group than any expected. Many traditional stock agencies are once again frightened by the evolution of the stock industry and what some have called the creative destruction that is part of the natural business cycle. However it seems clear that the micro stock business model has taken hold with popular sites like iStockphoto, StockXpert, Dreamstime, Fotolia, Shutterstock, BigStockPhoto, 123rf, and the 2-year old Can Stock Photo. Of course nobody can predict where the industry will go next but for now we wish Can Stock Photo a happy birthday and look to the future ready to adapt to whatever comes next.Posted in: News, Stock Photo Companies
