ddp: one-stop shopping
The German press agency ddp, which is well-known for its news and editorial pictures, has adopted a new approach since its acquisition last year of the Danish agency colourpress.com and is continuing to work on the concept of one-stop shopping. According to Dirk von Borstel, who is responsible for ddp’s picture services, "we have not only combined our distribution structures with those of colourpress.com but have been able to add stock photos to ddp’s ‘traditional’ offering of politics, business, sports, culture and miscellaneous subjects and colourpress.com’s entertainment, royalty and exclusive photography".A co-operation with colourbox, which is also a Danish agency, will enable ddp to expand its file of stock material. Von Borstel emphasises that "the alliance will enable us to serve our clients better, especially as we can put together pre-edited packages on various subjects and get them to our clients direct".
Colourbox will contribute European-style stock and royalty-free productions and also offers stock imagery on subscription. Its general manager Markus Müller says, "this is not only interesting for editorial uses, since the material constitutes an excellent basis for media clients to advertise their own services". Subscribers have access to 150,000 images, with 5,000 added each month. A subscription costs around 290 euros a month and there is no download limit. However, images may not be used for commercial purposes after the expiry of three months following the end of the subscription.
The new alliance was officially launched at the Picta fair in Hamburg with a joint presentation by the three companies.
