FIFA and WAN resolve World Cup dispute
The International Football (Soccer) Federation (FIFA,) and the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) have resolved their differences (previously reported here) regarding the photographer coverage of the World Cup Soccer Championship this summer. FIFA has agreed not to impose the restrictions on the timing of image distribution or limits on the number of images from each match. Representatives from the two organizations had failed to agree on the matter and reached the point of hiring a mediator to help resolve the dispute. In the end, Sepp Blatter, the FIFA president and Timothy Balding, CEO of the WAN met privately and reached an agreement acceptable to all parties. Balding represented the interests of several press agencies including Agence France Press, Associated Press, Reuters and Getty Images.
