Leica once owned by Salgado sets record price at auction

Leica_m7_1A collector from Taiwan has recently purchased at auction a Leica camera once owned by world-famous photographer Sebastiao Ribeiro Salgado. The Leica M7 with a housing of solid titanium had been auctioned some days ago at the Westlicht Photographica Auction in Vienna. Salgado had been presented the collectors piece with the serial number 3,000,000 by Leica in acknowledgment of his "humanitarian photographic work".  The auction closed at a world record of 108,000 euros (Approx. $130,000 US Dollars) making the Salgado M7 the most valuable camera, built after the Second World War.  The profits from the auction were donated by the Brazilian photographer to an environmental protection project to prevent deforestation of the rain forest in his homeland. According to Salgado "presumably more than 200,000 trees can be planted from this contribution". Stefan Hartmann, VISUELL
