Jupiter sells Search Engine Strategies and ClickZ

Ses_for_sale_3Jupiter announced the sale of Search Engine Strategies trade shows and its ClickZ.com Network of Web sites, including its well known SearchEngineWatch.com, for $43 million in cash, to Incisive Media plc. The transaction is expected to close in August 2005. Why would Alan Meckler sell off his Baby? According to his Blog he wanted to raise money without selling off more shares of the company.

OK now for some wild speculation. Jupiter had a good quarter and made a lot of money. Jupiter sold off one of its most valuable assets to raise another $43 million. These are very bold moves that show Alan Meckler is committed to the image licensing business. Now what would be the ultimate purchase/merger opportunity that would motivate Alan Meckler to build up his bank account? Could it be that Jupiter Media has its eyes on Corbis? That would rock Getty’s world! Could the number two and number three stock licensing companies team up to challenge Getty Images for dominance in the industry? Hmmmm… How do you like the sound of Jorbis, Cupiter, or perhaps Meckler Images?
